How to find the right shower thermostat

hansgrohe ShowerTablet Select shower thermostat with shelf.
Instantly take your shower experience to the next level with a ShowerTablet Select. An integrated shelf and hand shower holder ensure maximum comfort.

Do you want to be in control of the way you enjoy water? From the shower thermostat with dials to the control panel with Select buttons and integrated shelf, hansgrohe offers so many control options. A modern thermostat faucet helps you to always feel safe with the water flowing at a constant feel-good temperature. And a hot-water block prevents scalding.

Our tip for more harmony: Choose products in the same color – for example, Brushed Bronze, Matte Black or Matte White – throughout the showerplace. Check out the surface finish designs for shower heads, accessories, and shower hoses on the FinishPlus page.

But before you find your favorite color, you need to make an important decision about the installation type: Exposed or concealed thermostat?

Exposed installation – who is it for?

Exposed thermostats sit in front of the wall and are perfect for anyone wanting to modernize their shower without undergoing an extensive remodel, as the old connections can often be used in renovations. These kinds of comfort solutions instantly increase your happiness in the shower. With their modern, understated design, hansgrohe exposed thermostats blend in well in any bathroom. Even a thermostat faucet like the ShowerTablet Select can be installed on existing water connections in a few simple steps. And with its shelf, this multifunctional designer thermostat offers plenty of space for your toiletries. Styling tip: Pair a shower thermostat in metallic gold with a gold-colored rain shower.

By the way: The fixing dimensions for all hansgrohe shower thermostats are standardized to ensure they can be installed in all bathrooms. Even rental apartments deserve a refresh, so these fittings can be just as quickly affixed as dismantled.

Your trusted sanitation expert can make shower technology discreetly disappear using concealed thermostats like the ShowerSelect Comfort. For more comfort and space in the shower.

Concealed installation – who is it for?

Fans of minimalist design appreciate that the technology they don’t want “out in the open” can be concealed behind the wall. Our pre-fab sets are flat shower thermostats. People who have them in their bathrooms love the low space requirements, easy cleaning and dampened noise. A “tidy” shower like this means users won’t bump or burn themselves – the perfect product for accessible bathrooms!

Important: Concealed solutions require the wall to be opened up, so they’re great for new builds or remodels. Leave their installation to the sanitation experts, as only they know how to properly install the iBox universal 2 base set and connect the correct pre-fab sets.

User-friendly concealed thermostat models

  • The ShowerSelect Comfort shower thermostat is a work of art for the wall. Its puristic design appears to merge with the showerplace. Enjoy shower comfort at the touch of a button: Switch from the hand shower to the overhead shower or a different spray mode using the Select button. The elegant pre-fab set comes in FinishPlus surface finishes such as Matte Black or Brushed Bronze to match other hansgrohe shower products. Designs: Round (S), Square (E), and SoftCube (Q).
  • Showering also becomes a haptic indulgence with the award-winning RainSelect shower thermostat. The central control board for your home spa has a slim silhouette, high-quality surface finishes, and a shape that defines the space it’s placed in. Its 70 x 70 mm Select buttons and understandable symbols guide your hand intuitively. Available in Chrome as well as all FinishPlus surface finishes, for example Matte White or Polished Gold Optic.

How many water sources do you want to control?

Before choosing your shower faucet and thermostat, please answer the following questions: Do you want to fit your bathroom with a hand shower, an overhead shower – or both? And: Do you also want to control the spray modes on the shower head(s) via the thermostat? The number of consumers (= water sources) plays a key role in the type of shower thermostat in your new bathroom setup.

  • With the RainSelect concealed shower control, you can operate two to five consumers via a central control board. This thermostat in the shower is the ultimate solution, as it controls multiple shower heads with multiple spray modes.
  • With concealed shower thermostats like the ShowerSelect Comfort, you can operate two to four consumers. Just like the RainSelect, this solution allows you to shower with up to three shower heads.
  • With an exposed shower thermostat like the ShowerTablet Select, you can operate one consumer – a hand shower or overhead shower. hansgrohe also offers concealed installation models with an understated design for this minimalist solution.

Thermostat faucets: Features for more safety and sustainability

  • EcoStop/EcoStop+: For full control when saving water. The function initially reduces the water flow to a maximum of 10 l/min or 6 l/min respectively (each at 3 bar). If you ever want more water, all you need to do is press the little button on the back of the thermostat’s handle.
  • WaterFlowControl: For resource-efficient shower controls. You can use a dial to accurately set the water flow and therefore consume less hot water and energy.
  • CoolContact: The thermostat always remains cool thanks to the sophisticated cooling technology that protects you against unpleasant touches or burns.
  • SafetyStop: A safety lock to prevent the water exceeding 40 °C – in other words, a sensible temperature limitation mechanism. This hot-water block reliably prevents scalding.

Key information about shower thermostats

How does a shower thermostat work?

A shower thermostat keeps the water temperature constant when on. It allows you to enjoy your shower experience without fluctuations – a really nice feeling. A shower thermostat (or a shower faucet with thermostat) features a chamber where hot and cold water are mixed to reach the required temperature. The shower thermostat then automatically regulates the water flow to keep the temperature stable, even when water is being used in other parts of the house.

What is the difference between a shower thermostat and shower faucet?

A shower thermostat allows you to pre-set how warm the shower water should get. It can also activate a temperature lock at 40 degrees Celsius, for example. This hot-water block offers reliable protection against unpleasantly hot water or even scalding. The shower thermostat features a chamber where cold and hot water are mixed in the shower to adjust the water temperature and keep it stable for the entirety of the shower. A shower faucet does not have this mixing chamber. Here, you regulate the water temperature and flow by hand when showering and constantly readjust it to your current needs.

My shower thermostat has been installed but only hot or cold water flows. Why might this be?

One possible reason for this: The hot and cold water connections were mixed up during installation. If this has happened, hansgrohe has a solution for almost every product. You can find the spare parts number in your shower thermostat’s installation manual. Or you can look it up in our online Spare Parts Shop.

The thermostat handle is difficult to operate. How can this problem be rectified?

There are several potential reasons why the thermostat in your shower is difficult to operate. For example, deposits on the sealing surfaces may be preventing the controls from running smoothly. Please replace the component according to the enclosed installation manual. You can find more information in the hansgrohe online Spare Parts Shop.

How do I replace my old thermostat in the shower?

A hansgrohe thermostat faucet (exposed installation) is easy to install in your shower, and replacing the old one for the new one does not require expert craftsmanship. Please follow the instructions in the installation manual. If you are unsure, ask a plumber, who will install the product professionally and safely. You can find a local sanitation expert via the hansgrohe Shopfinder. More in-depth information on installing concealed thermostats is available in the hansgrohe bathroom guide.
