Our experts from the Technical Service Center have tested many of the possible faucet and ceramics combinations for their functionality and made the results available to you. hansgrohe ExcellentFit helps you to make the right decision for your perfect combination.
There are strict requirements for sanitary ceramic products. Our glaze is one of the methods we use to satisfy these requirements. One important aspect is that all areas that come into contact with water must be covered with a hygienically smooth glaze. It also needs to be abrasion-resistant, scratch-resistant, and easy to clean. The glaze used here is made of quartz, chalk, feldspar, and the mineral rock dolomite. Depending on the model, it is applied either by hand or using a glazing robot.
The easy-to-clean SmartClean glaze is permanently baked into the ceramics to prevent dirt particles from sticking – for more hygiene and less cleaning. Residues such as limescale or dirt drain away more easily with the water on this smooth surface. The SmartClean glaze is not only applied to the wash basin’s bowl, but to the entirety of the wash basin (except for the base). The SmartClean glaze is also highly resistant to scratches and other mechanical influences.
With hansgrohe products, you can usually clean the odor trap and/or siphon under the wash basin. There is a description of how to clean these parts in the installation manual that came with the product, and this information can also be downloaded from the online Spare Parts Shop.

All odor traps/siphons work in the same way: There is water in the siphon to seal the drain pipe and prevent sewer gases from penetrating into your living space. As soon as you turn on the faucet, the water in the siphon is replaced. In other words, siphons are self-cleaning.
