While it takes care of cleaning every day, the faucet often “falls victim” to impurities. Our hands leave behind greasy residues and dirt particles. With this in mind, your lavatory faucet, shower faucet, bath tub faucet, and kitchen faucet should all be descaled on a regular basis. How do you enjoy your faucets for the longest time possible? And how do you clean a high-quality hansgrohe faucet without unscrewing it? Read on to learn the correct way to clean your faucets and look after them in the long term.
Following the tips below makes cleaning and caring for your faucet a breeze.
Another tip: While you’re at it, clean the basin and spout so that everything shines. And for even more joy with water.
hansgrohe recommends its customers use a gentle cleaning product containing citric acid. This has a number of advantages. Conventional concentrates with lots of cleaning power often irritate hands and eyes; they can trigger allergies and irritate sensitive skin. The faucet’s material may also be attacked if the chemicals are too strong. The damage may go unnoticed at first, but microscopically small scratches or superficial burns are all it takes to tarnish the high-gloss finish. In the long term, more dirt and limescale can accumulate in these spots. Gentle cleaning products are also more environmentally friendly.
If you have hard water in your region, limescale deposits are likely. Keep residues from accumulating by briefly wiping the faucet after each rinse or wash. This removes water before it has a chance to leave deposits behind.
The hansgrohe quality lab has tested numerous cleaning and descaling products. We have come to the conclusion that less is more here. Citric acid is our favorite active ingredient: Effective, fragrant, and gentle on both faucets and people. You can download our detailed cleaning recommendations as a PDF.
We advise against using household staples such as baking powder or cleaning products containing vinegar, acetic acid, formic acid, sodium hydroxide and chlorine bleach solutions, phosphoric acid or even hydrochloric acid. Some of these substances are highly corrosive. Frequent use will damage the metal, no matter how high-quality the finish. We fully recommend using citric acid.

Simply rubbing the flexible silicone nozzles on the jets with your fingers removes limescale and dirt. Tougher limescale deposits on the faucet can be removed using citric acid. Always spray the cleaner on a cotton cloth first, and carefully wipe the faucet clean. Then thoroughly rinse the faucet using fresh water.
How often you descale your bathroom products depends on the water hardness in your area. If the lime content is high, more frequent cleaning is recommended. Be sure to also look out for the potential signs of limescale so that you can take action in good time.
Carefully unscrew the aerator and leave it to soak in a bowl of water with a mild cleaning product containing citric acid. Once all limescale has been removed from the filter screen, you can simply screw it back on and quickly rinse it off with flowing water.
