The success of BORA - hansgrohe athlete Matt Walls at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo was the hansgrohe brand’s inspiration for this special project: the Golden Bike, a Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL7, in the hansgrohe FinishPlus Polished Gold Optic. Together with Matt Walls, hansgrohe decided to raffle off the Golden Bike and donate the proceeds to a good cause. After a months-long roadshow through Europe, including a stop at the Tour de France, the total donation totaled €20,000. All proceeds will now go to the Viva con Agua project ONE WASH in Uganda.
Viva con Agua supports water projects in Uganda and is committed to clean drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene. Thus, Viva con Agua supports the construction of wells, the expansion of water supply or sanitation facilities, and focuses on joyful empowerment through innovative workshops in the West Nile and Karamoja regions, as well as around the capital Kampala.
Matt has been racing for Team BORA - hansgrohe since 2021. In the summer of 2021, he won the Olympic gold medal in track cycling (omnium) for Team Great Britain in Tokyo.
“This is of course a great opportunity for me, and the team has developed immensely over the last few years. In the past, I have ridden both track and road, and I think the track has given me the necessary top end speed to be successful in sprinting on the road. Tokyo remains a goal, but my priorities now lie on the road. BORA – hansgrohe has developed many top sprinters, and that gives me a lot of confidence. Thanks to the team for this opportunity, I can’t wait to contribute to their success.” – Matthew Walls
Taking social responsibility has always been deeply anchored in Hansgrohe’s corporate culture. The company and its brands primarily support projects that protect the precious resource of water: in the Black Forest, but also far beyond our locations. We also support charitable initiatives related to nature conservation and social and sports projects.
