to improving the water supply in Namibia
The Hansgrohe calendar 2012 ‘A Sense of Water’ presents this valuable resource amidst the fascinating landscape of Namibia. Photographer Alexa Singer depicts models and Hansgrohe showers in magical locations, illuminated by the powerful rays of the African sun. The result is a series of images that are an exquisite reflection of this multi-faceted South African country.
The title of the new Hansgrohe calendar is quite apt. “In Namibia, water is a key factor for development”, explained Joachim Huber, Head of Hansgrohe Brand Communication. "As a company in which sustainability plays such an important role, we are happy to use our calendar to support the 'Khaudum National Park' project."
The calendar supports a water management project
So for each of the 20,000 printed copies, five Namibian dollars (amounting to a total of around 10,000 euros) will be put into the project. The aim is to provide a sustainable water supply for the locals and to improve their social conditions. The overall project is being implemented by Namibia Country Lodges. This organisation has already implemented similar projects in Namibia, including in Twyfelfontein where UNESCO declared the unique rock engravings a World Heritage Site in 2007.
"Namibia is a land of contrasts", said Joachim Huber. "An area twice the size of Germany, but with only two million inhabitants. Drought at one extreme, water in abundance at the other." A 16-strong production team set off on a journey covering hundreds of kilometres of dusty sand tracks in order to capture the series of images for the 2012 calendar. The Hansgrohe products were perfect for portraying the water situation encountered in Namibia.
